Course Aims

To increase the awareness and knowledge of delegates to help them comply with the requirements of the Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations.

Course Objectives

By the end of this training programme, delegates will be able to;

1. Differentiate between Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Guidance notes.

2. Outline the background to the Regulations.

3. Understand the principals of risk assessment and the hierarchy of control measures.

4. Understand the role of;

a) The client/agent.

b) The planning supervisor.

c) The designer/architect.

d) Principal contractor/sub-contractors.

5. Providing evidence of competence.

6. Outline the features of the safety file.

7. Outline the features of the safety plan.

Introduction and domestic arrangements.

Construction industry accident statistics

Review of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

European Directives, Regulations, Codes of practice and guidance notes.

Definitions of 'So far as reasonably practicable", Hazard, risk and accident.

The main requirements of the Management of Health and safety at Work Regulations.

The principals of risk assessment.

Role of the client/agent.

Role of the planning supervisor.

Role of the designer/architect

Role of the principal contractor/sub-contractors.

The health and safety plan.

The health and safety file.
