Course Aim

To increase the awareness and knowledge of managers and supervisors to help them comply with the requirements of the Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations.

Course objectives

By the end of this training programme, delegates will be able to;

d) Principal contractor and other contractors.

(3) State what are the main risks to health and safety in the construction industry.

(4) Outline the essential elements for an effective pre-tender safety plan.

(5) State the main risks to health and safety from maintenance activities.

(6) Outline the features of the safety file.

(7) Outline the essential elements for an effective post-tender safety plan.

(8) Develop a simple pre-tender safety plan.

Course Content

0930 Introductions and domestic arrangements. Course aims and objectives.
Definitions. When CDM applies. Who the duty holder are. When a project needs to be notified and form F10 (rev). Role of clients and agents of clients.

1115 Health and safety resources. Competency of duty holders. Contractors safety compliance statement. Video "Too much trouble" - building maintenance. Main health and safety risks from maintenance activities. Designers duties. The health and safety file. Requirements of the planning supervisor.

1300 Main health and safety risks from construction work. The pre-tender health and safety plan. Video "Danger vehicles at work" - dangers from construction traffic. The health and safety plan cont. Case study - analysis of an example pre-tender safety plan. Developing a pre-tender safety plan.

1515 Developing a safety plan cont. Duties of the principal contractor and other contractors. Essential features of a post tender safety plan. Video "CDM" a summary of CDM. Key learning points.
