THE CONSTRUCTION (HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE) REGULATIONS.


Course aims

To increase the safety awareness and knowledge of delegates towards the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations.

Course objectives

By the end of this training programme, delegates will be able to;

1) Outline the background to the Regulations.

2) Understand the duties of the employer, employees, self employed and management contractors.

3) Identify hazards commonly found on construction sites.

4) Understand the causes of accidents on sites and how these Regulations are designed to prevent them.

5) Outline the types of physical safeguards required to prevent injury by falls or falling objects.

6) Understand the requirement for safe traffic routes on construction sites and how it is achieved.

7) Understand when specific training, supervision, inspection and reports are required under these Regulations.

8) Understand the additional fire precautions relating construction sites.

9) Outline the additional welfare arrangements required by these regulations.

Anyone with managerial or supervisory duties on construction sites. They will also be of interest to those taking on the role of the planning supervisor

Course content

0900 Introductions, domestic arrangements, aims and objectives.

0915 Application, duties and interpretation. Safe place of work. Construction site hazard spotting exercise. Main risks on the construction site.

0945 Prevention of falls. Requirements for guardrails. Requirements for working platforms. Requirements for ladders.

1030 *Coffee*

1045 Fragile materials. Requirements for personal suspension equipment and means of arresting falls. Falling objects.

11.15 Demolition and dismantling. Explosives. Excavations. Safe means of support. Traffic routes. HSE Video "Danger vehicles at work".

1200 Vehicles - accident investigation.

1230 - 1330 * Lunch*

1330 Prevention of fire and flooding. Emergency routes and exits. Doors and gates.

1415 Activities requiring training and supervision. Requirements for inspection and reporting.

1500 *Coffee*

1515 Good order. Ventilation. Lighting. Temperature. Welfare facilities.
